Each winter, hundreds of gray whales return to their traditional breeding and birthing grounds along the Pacific coast of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. Their 6,000-mile migration from Alaska's Bering Sea to these sheltered lagoons is the longest mammal migration on Earth. Once hunted nearly to extinction, these gentle leviathans have made a dramatic comeback. Friendly and engaging, they are often intrigued with humans, swimming right up to our open boats in the warm, shallow waters of San Ignacio Lagoon. We may see mothers with their babies, and our small groups frequently interact with them at close range. The whales entertain us with breaching and spy-hopping, and we may observe mating behavior as well. When you come to Baja with us, you'll be forever spoiled for whale watching, because it doesn't get any better than this!

Laguna San Ignacio
The lagoon is in Baja California and is a haven for migratory whales. The upper part of the lagoon is where females give birth, while in the lower lagoon, visitors will have the chance to see males and females congregating to find a mate. Visitors who go out on small boat expeditions can get close enough to touch the whales.
Loreto
Loreto has sprawling beaches and the warm waters of Sea of Cortes. Sportfishing in the Sea of Cortez is world-famous. Known as the Dorado (mahi-mahi) capital. Scuba diving in Loreto is a unique and exciting experience the wide variety of marine fish and aquatic life here is astonishing. A few miles offshore there are islands for divers to explore. But the fun isn't limited to just fishermen and divers. Spend a day exploring the colonial town of Loreto. Visit the Misión Nuestra Señora de Loreto and local museum in the center of town. Explore the local shops or enjoy snorkeling excursions and day trips to the outer islands. Loreto even has its own 18-hole, par 72 golf course.
